He really wanted this tree, and asked for it at least weekly both before and after Christmas. In all honesty I can't remember what I said each time. Probably the same placating and annoying words my mother used to say to me: "okay honey, we'll see."
A couple of weeks ago I discussed this conversation with a co-worker, who mentioned casually "they probably sell small trees like that at Rite Aide Pharmacy."
Fast forward to last week as I was shopping for medication at Rite Aide...I remembered this conversation and headed over to the Christmas clearance isle.
Guess what I found? A fiber optic, color changing 4 ft artificial Christmas tree. It was originally 14.99, marked down to a whopping $3.75.
I bought it, and brought it home.
I was so excited to give it to him.
The look on Aidan's face when I told him I had a surprise, when I showed him "his" Christmas tree was so sweet, proud, and priceless.
Even more priceless was the Christmas tree top Aidan created out of paper, painstakingly rolling and taping the paper so it fit on the top. He drew a declaration of his new tree, and a pink heart which he cut out and placed in his shirt, then on the branches.
I cried a little at his tree, his joy, and the amazingly sweet moment that this $3.75
tree gave him. The pictures I hope capture it all.
